A downloadable game for Windows

About the project

Racing Life is a racing game project, in development since August 2019, made with the Unity game engine.

You will start your carreer in the 1910's, when seatbelts were not a thing, cars struggled to go over 150 km/h, and drivers were closer to gladiators than athletes. Meet various people on the way, make them your friends, or your rivals. Gain some reputation by doing jobs such as delivery man, taxi driver, photograph, and many more.

Then, with the cars you buy, participate in championships and be part of a story that transcends through time. As you progress, years will pass (think of it as a level-up system), granting you the possibility to buy newer cars.

Every in-game decade, the open-world map will evolve so you constantly have to learn new roads! Musics and overall vibe will change too, and you will have to tackle different challenges as well! Of course, you'll also be able to drive the newest cars of the time that feature new technologies which will help you reach the trophy you're looking to get.

The goal is to be the best driver... of all time. Litterally. From the 1910's, until nowadays.

We are currently in a prototype stage, making sure that the basic gameplay mechanics are done well and enjoyed by everyone. We are aiming at arcade style gameplay and exaggerated driving effects, making it simple to learn, but still hard to master.

Each technology that the cars have will grant you effects (airbags can reduce the amount of damage you get on the first big crash of the race; ABS and ESC can make your car easier to drive through corners...).

Each drivetrain (RWD, FWD and AWD) has different properties and drives slightly different as well.

As of writing this, we are currently two people working on the game and we don't want to spend money into the project, because we don't want to force players into paying anything. Especially at the current stage, where it is (still) only a prototype. We currently don't have a release date for the final game, we expect several years of development before the final release.

About this version of the game

The Alpha 0.0.3 version is featuring brand new, custom made driving physics that fit our vision for the game. We want it to be easy to pick up, but still challenging enough so it remains fun! These are "arcade-style" driving physics that are adapted to be playable in an open world (so the car does not seem to be stuck on rails).

Use the arrow keys to drive the car, Spacebar for the handbrake (to manually engage a drift), and control the camera with WASD.

Feedback wanted!

We would like to know what you think of the driving physics mainly, but if you find bugs in other sections don't hesitate to inform us as well!

Reguarding the driving physics, tell us if you like it or not, how you expected the car to react if you didn't enjoy it, and tell us how we could improve the feeling of the car (we are focusing on keyboard gameplay for now). Getting physics right is critical for a racing game so we do NOT want to mess that part up as we will be adding new gameplay elements (checkpoints, A.I. drivers, etc.) that rely on those physics.

The car should be able to move well on a free map like the one featured in this version, as well as being able to stay on road fairly easily especially when turning.

Feel free to test many stats, including those that correspond to a real car of your choice! If you have found specific stats that feel great (or awful to the point it's unplayable), tell us all the stats you have applied on the car so we can balance things out for the next version!

Also, don't hesitate to really push the car to its limits, if you find anything that seems odd or buggy, tell us as well!

Don't forget. In Racing Life, Time is everything.
